Classic days: Oily rag Chalmers 35C from 1920

Wednesday, 16 November 2016

Oily rag Chalmers 35C from 1920One of the most exciting events for prewar car enthusiasts on the continent are the "Classic Days" in the beautiful gardens of the moated castle Schloss Dyck in the Lower Rhine area. For anyone looking for truly outstanding vehicles in Germany this event is the perfect hunting ground.

This year (2016) I was stunned by a Chalmers 35C built in 1920 which has never been restored and is completely original down to the cover of the spare wheel.

The cars condition is due to the fact that it spent more than 60 years in a dry barn in the U.S. Only in 2007 it was auctioned and found its way to an owner who luckily abstained from a "proper restoration" and felt a technical overhaul should suffice.

The result speaks for itself and should encourage more vintage car owners to think twice before they start transforming historic artefacts into new vehicles...
