60 Years of Porsche in America

Posing in the “Glöckler-Porsche” is US automobile importer Max Hoffman. At the Paris Motor Show in 1950 met with Ferdinand Porsche and they made a deal that from then on Hoffman would import 15 Porsches each year. The deal benefitted both: Porsche, who at that time was just a small sports car manufacturer, found a new market; Hoffmann had as importer of a number of different European automobile brands on the American East Coast had his own dealer network at his disposal, as well as a good sense of what the America wanted. The first three Porsches 356 were shipped to the USA in early October 1950 and to celebrate this event the Porsche Museum will have a special exhibition. From October 12, 2010 to January 9, 2011 the most interesting Porsche series for the American market are to be seen, among them the prototype of the Porsche 356 Speedster, the rare 356 America Roadster, and the legendary 550 Spyder.
