2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG | The Quail Auction 2026
Chassis No. WDDRJ7HA0BA002036
AMG engineers and designers are used to creating powerful and dynamic automobiles, but nothing could have prepared them for what they were told in a Sindelfingen boardroom in the late 2000s. In short, they were requested to create not just a new AMG super sports car, but one that brought their most cherished design, the 300 SL Gullwing Coupe, into the modern era. As the first Mercedes-Benz to be designed and built entirely by AMG, the SLS, or "Super Leicht Sport," was launched at the 2009 Frankfurt International Auto Show. Designed by Mark Fetherston, the SLS paired the signature gullwing doors of its forebear with a muscular exterior that finds the balance between elegance and power, and its aluminum spaceframe construction helped keep weight in check while maximizing rigidity. The result was an instant sensation among enthusiasts and critics alike, praised as a fitting successor to one of Mercedes-Benz's most storied nameplates.
Power comes from a 6.2-liter, naturally aspirated V8 offering 563 horsepower. AMG engineers maintained an impressive weight distribution by developing a dry-sump variant of their M159 engine, allowing the SLS to keep a low hood line and a front-mid-engine layout. Paired with a quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the SLS reaches 60 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 196 miles per hour, with six-piston aluminum brake calipers providing the necessary stopping power. A speed-activated rear wing deploys to aid stability at speed, while the AMG Drive Unit allows for selectable drive modes, working in conjunction with the suspension and transmission for tailored driving characteristics based on the driver's preference. Every detail, from the double-wishbone suspension to the rigid aluminum spaceframe, was engineered to AMG's exacting specifications
This example was ordered new in Iridium Silver Metallic with a designo Exclusive two-tone Classic Red and Black leather interior, a combination that highlights the SLS's dramatic proportions while nodding to the cabin treatments of AMG's most special models and lending a distinctly bespoke character to the cockpit. A copy of its original window sticker shows it was further optioned with 19-inch AMG 10-spoke forged alloy wheels, a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system, an AMG performance steering wheel with Alcantara inserts, and AMG Performance Suspension, a track-focused package developed to sharpen handling and reduce body roll.
The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows the car was sold new by Mercedes-Benz of New Rochelle, New York, on 31 July 2010, and it has remained under the care of a single owner ever since, with regular dealer-performed maintenance throughout its life, the latest completed in June 2025 at just 1,918 miles by Mercedes-Benz of Greenwich, Connecticut. The car is now offered with an incredibly low 1,936 miles at cataloging.
As the modern reinterpretation of one of Mercedes-Benz's most celebrated shapes, the SLS AMG occupies a singular place in the marque's lineage, having carried the Gullwing tradition forward for a new generation of enthusiasts. This single-owner example, complete with its documented history, low mileage, and desirable specification, represents a compelling opportunity to acquire one of AMG's most significant modern achievements.
