1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC ABC-Exclusive Widebody | Global Icons: The Patina Collective
Chassis No. WDBCA45D8GA202519
In September 1985, four years after the debut of the 500 SEC-the range-topping coupe version of the second-generation S-Class-Mercedes-Benz unveiled a revised range at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The update featured a subtle facelift, including changes to the bumpers, side skirts, and wheels, but the main focus was on a restructured engine lineup. The 5.5-liter V8 engine was the standout addition, developed by lengthening the stroke of the 5.0-liter V8 up to 300 horsepower depending on its original market, making the 560 SEL and 560 SEC the most potent production Mercedes-Benz cars upon debut.
At the height of the 560 SEC's reign as the definitive luxury coupe, Europe's leading tuning houses engaged in a fierce arms race to create the most exclusive and imposing interpretations of the W126 platform. Among the most notable was ABC Exclusive Tuning of Bonn, Germany, whose dramatic widebody conversions, distinct badging, and bespoke interiors earned the firm a devoted following among discerning clientele. Like many of its rivals however, ABC Exclusive disappeared by the early 1990s due in part to the high cost and hand built nature of these components, making its surviving creations seldom encountered and highly treasured by Mercedes collectors worldwide.
This 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC features the ABC Exclusive widebody kit as well as signature Gotti five-spoke multi-piece wheels. Other enhancements AMG exhaust tips, Rest-of-World headlights and heckblende, electronically adjustable Recaro Classic-C seats, and a Becker Grand Prix radio. It is finished in its factory-correct Barolo Red (540U) over a Palomino (274) leather interior and retains many of its original appointments including its Mercedes-Benz four-speed automatic transmission, electric sliding sunroof with tilt, headlight washers, automatic climate control, and electric windows.
Manufactured October 1985, this early 560 SEC was delivered new to Phoenix, Arizona and sold to its first owner in Scottsdale according to its original owner warranty registration document. It remained in stock condition with the original owner in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area for approximately 30 years, with almost annual services reported on its clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report and in its stamped maintenance booklet, before it was sold to an owner in 2016 and landed in Chicago, Illinois.
With its unmistakable and desirable ABC Exclusive body work, this 560 SEC was acquired by The Patina Collective in 2022, joining the renowned Mercedes collection in Florida that curates examples with period aftermarket enhancements of equal rarity and significance. Minor fiberglass delamination is noted on this example, but still a well-preserved example of this rarely seen 560 SEC featuring the ABC Exclusive Widebody kit. It is now offered with its owners' manuals stamped warranty booklet, and other delivery documentation.
With ABC Exclusive bodykit-equipped Mercedes remaining unicorns to encounter, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one such example enriched by a host of bespoke period touches, a striking factory color combination, detailed maintenance history from new, and all the unapologetic opulence that defined 1980s luxury.
