A Comuta is for shopping

With today’s accent on newly introduced electric cars, we tend to forget that for years and years auto manufactures have been testing battery powered vehicles. This is one such an experiment, the Comuta, developed by Ford UK in 1967 as a concept vehicle for non-polluting urban and suburban motoring. However, powered by four 12 volt 85 amp lead batteries, the best it could do was a range of 60 kilometres at a speed of 40 km/h. It’s top speed was a maximum of 60 km/h, so even then it was realized that it would be many years before this technology could replace the combustion engines for long journeys.
