A Jean Shrimpton mystery - 50 years after she 'stopped a nation'

When was the last time a girl caused global sensation by wearing a rather classy outfit? English model Jean Shrimpton did just so when she visited Flemington racecourse in Melbourne exactly 50 years ago today - on October 30, 1965. What then then-22 ‘highest paid model of the world’ wore? A white mini dress, which ended 10 cm exactly above her knees. ‘‘The Shrimp’ shocked them’, headed a newspaper. ‘The legs that stopped a nation’ wrote another.

The picture above was taken some two years later at London airport and chosen, of course, for the added car. We have tried to find out which car, but couldn’t agree. It’s been built by Vignale as the badge reveals, but which one is it? A Fiat? A Maserati? A Jensen? A Lancia? We're not too sure. Are you?
