We were surprised that two of you still were able to recognise the small powerpack presented last Saturday! Both Alan Spencer and Matti Ouvinen identified the Fiat 500 Giardiniera based C.R.M. that was built for the Formula Junior in Italy, a class for cars under 875,000 Lire. Those of you who wonder why they used the Giardiniera and not the standard Fiat 500, the first one has its aircooled two-cylinder positioned as a flat twin to save room, where the latter has the cylinders pointing upwards. The CRM designers didn't need the room aspect but liked the much lower gravity point of the horizontal version. Matti does not believe it is a one off. Seller Bernard Marreyt from Brussels also believes a small series (maybe 42?) of this car was made. Another question mark is the year. Marreyt describnes the car as 1964, Matti Ouvinen says '62-'63. Alan Spencers seems confident about 1962. Any off you who has rocksolid evidence regarding the exact year of this formula baby?
