Back to back – 2000 GT or 400 GT?

Another nut cracker for you today. It would have been obvious to compare the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT that Gooding & Co has on offer during their Pebble Beach sale this weekend, with the equally bright red 1967 Mazda Cosmo they sell, too. But how about the stunning Lamborghini 400 GT that they bring over? If the Lambo can be called the Ferrari’s ultimate competitor of its era, you may well forget that over in Japan people were equally hard at work to perfectionize the sports car concept. It may not have a V12 under its curvy body, but it’s fast, beautiful and very rare, too.

351 2000 GT's were hand built, with this one delivered new to Mozambique of all places, and recently totally refurbished in Costa Rica. The 400 GT in Amaranto is one of 242 and is unrestored on its California black plates. It was sold new in Los Angeles in January 1968 and has covered just under 80,000 miles since. Although it’s not running at the moment, the original ‘Lamborghini In Rodaggio’ road-test sticker is still in place, which seems unique to us. The Toyota is valued about twice as high as the Lamborghini, but we are not so sure which of the two will prove favourite this weekend. What do you think?
