The only amphibian car for private use on the world market was designed by Hans Trippel. A chassis-less cabriolet steel body with electric welded joints is used for the Amphicar for sale. The engine is a 4-cylinder 1.147cc Triumph mounted in the rear. Only the rear wheels are driven. Two propellers for water cruising are mounted under the back of the Amphicar and are driven by a special gear. On the road the Amphicar is capable of about 68mph, on water about 6½ knots. Normal steering is used in the water. In 1962 an Amphicar crossed the Channel from France to England.
