Racing cars were produced and raced under this name, but private cars were also marketed under the four original names. All four factories were nationalized in 1945 and the headquarters of the Auto Union were transferred to Düsseldorf, later to Ingolstadt, where in 1950 production of DKW cars was started again. The DKW ‘1000’ was marketed under the name Auto Union only. This model was produced during the years 1985 – 1962 with a 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine of 981cc capacity. In 1965 the name Audi was also revived.
