Hong-Qi is a medium-sized car manufactured in sedan and convertible forms. The Hong-Qi car is used mainly by government officials. The Hong-Qi car is powered by a 5.3-litre V8 unit of 220hp at 4.400rpm through an automatic transmission. Various extras are available, including power steering, vacuum-assisted brakes, air conditioning, power windows and auto-tuning radio. Maximum speed is reported as 100mph. The original body design on Hong-Qi cars was abandoned as unattractive, after a limited production run, and considerable modifications were made before manufacture of Hong-Qi cars was resumed. Fifteen specially built and numbered Hong-Qi Red Flags were turned out for a Party anniversary some years ago, it was reported. The large Hong-Qi car factory complex was constructed with Soviet aid and concentrates primarily on the fabrication of Liberation trucks. Hong-Qi Red Flags are hand-assembled in very small quantities, only to the order of the First Ministry of Machine Building. In 1973 a 6-cylinder engine was also used on Hong-Qi cars.
