Kougar cars were founded in 1979 with the idea to build a bespoke sports car with a unique identity all of its own. The styling of the Kougar car was taken from no one car, however the founder of Kougar cars Rick Stevens had a particular fondness of the Frazer Nash TT and Healey Siverstone, the resulting Kougar cars have a very distinctive look, coupled with Jaguar running gear and the built proof Jaguar six cylinder engine Kougars cars are not only exhilarating to drive but are well respected as a manufacturer in their own right as some 200 Kougar cars of the original design have been built.
The first Kougar car with an alloy body was sold to an American in 1977, but moulds had prudently been taken from the alloy body and a batch of 5 Kougar cars was exported to Australia.
The early Kougar cars featured a chrome grill, however this was briefly superseded by a cast alloy grill. Nevertheless, the chrome grill was re-instated in 1979, albeit with two extra bars and is still used today.
