In addition to their very successful motor cycle line, Suzuki cars builds 4-wheeled vehicles that began with the Suzulite utility car produced in 1961. This Suzuki car was a front-wheel-drive 2-door car capable of seating four or carrying merchandise in the rear compartment. The engine of the Suzuki car was a 2-cylinder, air-cooled, 20bhp unit. Ball-joint suspension was used.
By 1966 Suzuki cars, like other Japanese makers, were moving away from minicar themes with their 800 FronteSuzuki car, a development of the original 360 using a 41bhp, 785cc 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine, a 4-speed all-synchromesh gearbox, and all-independent springing. Top speed was 72mph. The 1969 SS versions Suzuki car of the original 360 gave 36bhp and 77mph, but the 3-cylinder Suzuki car was no longer quoted. However, 1971 Suzuki cars brought an ingenious Fronte-based 359cc 4X4, the Suzuki Jimny. Various minicar models Suzuki car with 2-stroke engines were offered in 1972.
