The first Tojeiro sportscars used a simple tubular frame, similar to the contemporary Lester. The most popular engine for the Tojeiro sportscars was the MG, bored to 1.467cc, until Cliff Davis’s Bristol-engined version Tojeiro sportscar achieved a fine run of successes in 1951 and 1954. The designs of the Tojeiro sportscars were then sold to AC for their Ace, and subsequent models Tojeiro sportscars were based on space frames. Jaguar engines were fitted from 1956 onwards in the Tojeiro sportscar, but perhaps the most interesting model Tojeiro sportscarwas the 1.098cc Coventry-Climax-engined car of 1958, which included a single disc brake and an inverted Volkswagen gearbox in unit with the De Dion type rear axle. In 1959 a 1½-litre version Tojeiro sportscar was made, and in 1960 a Formula Junior Tojeiro sportscar was obtainable. The last of a line of some 50 Tojeiro sportscars were the rear-engined Coventry-Climax powered coupés built for the Ecurie Ecosse.
