As the last rays of summer fade and the trees shed their leaves, our gaze shifts from leisurely drives to the heroic world of rallying. Muddy tracks, dusty plains, high-revving engines and a surge of adrenaline: this is the arena where marques like Lancia, Fiat and later on Subaru earned their legendary status. Today, we take a closer look at three rally cars crossing the block at Broad Arrow Auctions.
The rally car of the 1970s, with world titles in 1974, 1975, and 1976. Its performance and radical design cemented the Stratos as an undisputed legend. The example on offer, a 1976 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale, was converted early on to official Group 4 specification and boasts an impressive competition record. Franco Leoni and Giuseppe Borgo scored multiple victories with it in the 1982 Italian Rally Championship. In modern times, it took part in the Tour de Corse Historique (2015 and 2016) and has been road-registered in France since 2018. Presented in its iconic Pirelli livery and powered by the Ferrari Dino V6, chassis 829AR0001581 offers a rare opportunity to acquire a Stratos that combines both pedigree and usability.
Following the Stratos era came the rise of the Fiat 131 Abarth, which secured constructors’ titles in 1977, 1978, and 1980. Only 46 factory-built Group 4 cars were produced by Fiat for the World Rally Championship. This particular example (chassis 131AR2045674) was campaigned in the 1977 WRC by drivers including Markku Alén/Ilkka Kivimäki and Fulvio Bacchelli/Francesco Rossetti. After an active career in Europe and South America, it underwent a complete restoration by Italia Motorsport, finished in 2025. Offered today in its original Olio Fiat livery from the 1977 Rally Portugal, it is presented in concours condition – a Works car with proven competition history, ready to contest prestigious historic rally events.
In the second half of the 1980s, the Delta HF Integrale took over as rallying’s undisputed king. With countless victories, it became the ultimate icon of its generation. This particular car (chassis ZLA831AB000459388) is an original Martini Works entry, campaigned in the grueling 1989 Safari Rally by Jorge Recalde and Jorge Del Buono. Though its rally ended prematurely, the car survived in largely original condition. In 1990 it was used by Miki Biasion for training purposes, after which it passed into private ownership and has remained out of competition ever since. Presented today in the iconic Martini livery, this Delta stands as an authentic relic of Lancia’s dominant Group A era – and an exceptionally rare opportunity for collectors.
A difficult choice?
Three remarkable icons, each with its own unique appeal. Ordinarily, our choice would fall on the Stratos – if only for its unmistakable soundtrack. But this time, with its Martini livery and Safari Rally pedigree, our preference leans toward the Lancia Delta HF Integrale. How about you?
The cars will be auctioned on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Belgium, alongside 76 other exceptional classics. You can find the full catalog here.
