For all ladies lovin' their car

Libby Edeleman used to be a fashion editor for Harper's Bazaar magazine, but is also a photographer and a woman who is passionate about cars. A rare thing? Oh no. She found out there are an awful lot of women like herself: “Why do we typically think that only men love cars? For years, I listened to my husband and two sons obsess about cars, until I finally thought: why can’t women love cars as well?" And so she did, leading to a book entitled 'Lovin' My Car - Women in the Driver's Seat'. Libby: "What I discovered as I photographed women from diverse backgrounds is that the relationships we share with our cars that don’t necessarily revolve around radials and engines and gears; we form emotional connections, like with family, and every bit as deep. This is what I hoped to capture in these photographs.”

Some 50 women are portayed for the book with a wide range of cars - not all of them purely classics, but all models which aren't particularly ordinary. What their proud female owners have in common is that they all like to share anecdotes about their vehicle’s history. A small selectiopn of photographs from the book can be seen below.

The book has just come out and can be found online at every major book selling shop.

Dear Libby,
I am willing to bet lunch that the red Caddy and the black one or both 1969 vintage.
If you want a true experience enter the Peking to Paris antique car rally. A London based association holds this event every 3 years.
My participation was in the 2007 and 2010 event. We were car number 126 and 44.
Also a real hoot is the Brighton Run held the first Sunday of November from Hyde Park, London to Brighton in a vehicle 1904 or older.
The toughest part is to finish.
