This Ford Escort Twin Cam started life in Ford’s well-known Boreham Competition Department in 1968. It was given the full works treatment, including its infamous bulbous wheelarch extensions. The rally car made its debut in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1969 at the hands of Jean Francois Piot and current FIA President, Jean Todt, who drove it to fourth place. The Escort was then entered into the San Remo Rally of that year, driven by the legendary Hannu Mikkola. Later it was also rallied by Roger Clark and then by future head of Toyota F1, Ove Andersson, who won the Welsh Rally in this Twin Cam. Ford sold the Escort Twin Cam in 1970, but the rally car competed as an ex-works private entry right up until 1991. It will be auctioned by Historics on December 4th.
