Better than testing a Goggo? Testing two Goggos!

report by Scott Barett: "The older we get, the more fabulous cars we discover and foster dreams of piloting, but we always hold a candle for the cars we fell in love with as children, our whole outlook on motoring might well have been shaped by these early desires.  Call me perverse if you will, but personally I've always loved microcars. Tiny automobiles make much more sense to tiny people, so is it any wonder I became enamoured with these loveable conveyances before I was old enough to see over the steering wheel of any 'normal' car?  Painted in the lurid pastel hues so typical of the 1950s, with buzzing, smoky, two-stroke engines and friendly pareidolic faces, they seemed a perfect antidote to the über-macho sports cars and boring monochrome family saloons that I read about in old car magazines as I was growing up.  There was one microcar that I held above all others in my esteem: The Goggomobil.  Recently,  I was given the opportunity to drive not one, but two Goggomobils for myself. They perform far better than any car with only 300cc has a right to do, the delicate steering is an utter delight and they are simply brimming with charm. They say you should never meet your heroes, but in this case I must strongly disagree. I have written about these cars, incredibly rare RHD UK market-survivors, in the latest issue of The Automobile magazine, which is out now. (Photographs by Seth Kennedy)
