In depth Dodge Challenger racing knowledge.

Writer/racing mechanic Will Silk was inspired by recent classic cars coming for sale to cough up some insiders knowledge: "While many recall Sam Posey driving the 77 Sublime Green Dodge Challenger during the 1970 Trans Am season, there was in fact a second car, the 76 car which Ronnie Bucknum and Tony “a2z” Adamowicz piloted. Dodge was late to the Trans Am party in 1970, but when they arrived there was no mistaking their entries. The cars were built by AAR in southern California before being shipped to Ray Caldwell’s Autodynamics shop for final prep. An acid bath to shed a few extra pounds, some careful attention by race engineer Carroll Smith, and the cars were set to go.
Things didn’t go the Sublime Green team’s way though as poor axle placement, weak four speed gearboxes, and 304 cubic inch engines that had a habit of going “pop” would lead to a number of DNF’s for both entries. Despite the hardships, Posey managed three third place finishes in the 77, bringing him a fourth place in championship points during the most incredible season that Trans Am ever experienced."
