For little more than fifty years Abingdon had been home to the MG factory. Sadly the factory had to close in 1980 and the last MGB rolled of the production line on October 23rd of that year. This very last MGB has now been acquired by the Abingdon Museum for display in the County Hall. Only one problem though… it wouldn’t go through the front door! The MGB had to be stripped down to its body shell and lifted by crane through one of the narrow window, with only millimeter’s to spare. A tough job that was well executed. See how it’s been done on this BBC YouTube video.
