Live from Salon Rétromobile 2024

Thousands of visitors have come flooding through the doors of the Expo Porte de Versailles. Hundreds of hugely desirable historic vehicles have been admired, and one or two large sums of money have changed hands. Yes, Salon Rétromobile 2024 has been a roaring success. On the PostWarClassic.com stand we've had an especially nice time, chatting to visitors who've had lots of questions to ask about our own exhibits

Of course, ours is but one stand among many, and enthusiasts for historic cars have had no trouble find dozens of fascinating vehicles to keep them busy for the day. In fact, for many, a day is scarcely enough. The centenary celebrations of MG and the Autodrome de Montlhéry have been among the star attractions. In addition to Phil Hill’s record-breaking EX181 and the dissected 1967 MGB GT Motor Show car, the MG display includes the MGA works rally car campaigned by Jack Sears in the Alpine Rally and Liège-Rome-Liège, an a Metro 6R4 Group B rally car. The Monthléry exhibition is brilliantly eclectic, containing everything from the 1957 VELAM Isetta streamliner to the Peugeot 404 which set the speed record for a diesel vehicle in 1965.

A special commemoration of the Paris-Dakar Rally is a source of further fascination, containing such vehicles as a unique, and rather beaten-up, Citroën DS23 pick-up and the six-wheeled, Chevrolet V8-engined 1984 Jules prototype.

Moving among the dealers and auction houses, we've found no end of delights, from streamlined Alfa Romeos and Delahayes exuding Art Déco glamour to hard-driven racing cars such as the unrestored 1966 Ford GT40, chassis P/1038, as originally raced by the Essex Wire Corporation, a company founded to produce wiring for the Ford Model A.

That’s only a fraction of what has been on display. If you've been fortunate enough to be among the visitors, we hope you've enjoyed it as much as we have. If you couldn't make it this year, we'll hopefully see you at Salon Rétromobile 2025, where there'll be friendly faces and some refreshment waiting for you on the PostWarClassic.com stand.
