The Dutch Royal family is from the House of Orange. Nothing to do with the chopper building family from Orange County, but going back to the french town Orange, just 20 kilometers from Avignoin, South France. The first dutch King of Orange was William the Silent who was born in 1533. This short explanation just to make clear that orange is an all important color in Holland. Not only during royal festivities, but also when it comes to sporst. On Queensday orange is about the only color you will see in The Netherlands. People will use any available orange clothing, make-up or whatever orange object is available to help the party going. Some people take the extra step, like the Vauxhall owner who repainted his early seventies Viva (made by Vauxhall Motors in Ellesmere Port, UK) in royal orange. Just for the special day it is today... (special thanks to Frans Vrijaldenhoven and photographer Aart Hoek)
