The US of A may have Pebble Beach as their prestige Concours d’Elegance (told you about that yesterday), but Germany has Schloss Dyck, held at the castle with the same name every year, for the 12th year the event will take place this weekend and we can expect plenty of prominent classics. Themes that come back are ‘Racing Legends’ boasting several known classic drivers, about the same age as their cars, who will be running up and down the 3-kilometre long stretch of tarmac that is the Schloss’ drive on an ordinary day. There is ‘Jewels in the Park’, held in the Orangerie, which focuses on the real prestigious stuff and ‘Lovely Heroes’ for the more down-to-earth 1950s classics, focusing on the small stuff - loved by everyone.
Oh – of course there will be a display on 70 Years of Ferrari for this year, but we’ve seen enough of that already and prefer another class over it: 'Made in Germany'. That concentrates on historic marketing mobiles, made to promote German articles and products of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Think VW buses in Lufthansa or Persil livery. Oh, hang on, a Campari Citroen HY is also expected as are Dunlop and Coca-Cola vans plus a Renault ice cream van. Not exactly made in Germany, but good fun nevertheless. And more than welcome when they are in practice on a summer day…
