The fun thing about a website with a large database is that you sometimes stumble upon unexpected finds. Recently we were looking for a holiday photo of a Fiat Topolino, but instead we came across this image from 2012. And it felt like a little time travel.
What we see is a delightful 1950s holiday atmosphere, complete with – as the brochure probably described it – a detached villa. The house (or rather cottage) even has a side window that can open a full ninety degrees! Parked in front is an Opel Olympia, produced between 1947 and 1952. A nice detail: the Helios mounted at the bottom center of the windscreen. On the far left of the picture, a Volkswagen Beetle is likely visible.
Back in 2012, we asked our readers for the best headline for this article. Unfortunately, most of the responses have disappeared over the years, except for the winning one you can see above. Perhaps it’s time for a new round: do you have a better headline in mind? We’d love to hear it!
