Further plans to develop a remarkable new motor museum in England have been unfolded by Peter Mullin of the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California. The American business man and car collector extraordinaire announced his plans in early 2018. In March he told Octane magazine: “It won’t just be about classics, however. We want to celebrate not just where we’ve been but where we’re going.” A place had been chosen yet in Great Tew in the scenic Cotswolds, where a 160 acres location was chosen to house the new-to build ‘The Mullin at Great Tew’, including hotel, 28 lodges and possibly a demonstration track.
Not everyone was pleased with the idea but over nine months later it seems that most of the opposition is now committed to Mullin’s plans. The proposals now also include a £1.7million investment in local housing, a new car park for a primary school and ‘environmental improvements’. Architect Norman Foster – ‘Britain’s greatest living architect’ in Mullin’s words, is signed to build the new premises which will house some 200 vehicles. Among the cars in Mullin’s California museum (since 2010) you can find an extraordinary collection of Citroen’s, many of them with coachbuilt bodies. But the collection also houses a large number of Pre Wars, among them an ultra-rare Bugatti 57C Atlantic and the famous Bugatti Type 22 pulled from the depths of the Lago Maggiore in 2011.
