It`s not long before classic car enthusiasts from all over the world come together in Paris for the 45th edition of Salon Rétromobile. From the 5th until the 9th of February 2020 there will be over 1000 vehicles on display in Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The total of 620 exhibitors includes car makers, collectors, clubs and federations, event organisers and vendors who besides (classic) cars also sell automobilia, parts, tools and arts. Specialists in various fields will show you their craftsmanship, think for instance of bodywork restorers.
The organisation told us that this year, Rétromobile will specifically pay attention to various car makes. Among them Tatra, with a number of exceptional Tatra vehicles on display and images and films retracing some of the highlights of this car manufacturer’s history. "Engineer Hans Ledvinka left his mark on Tatra’s history with his revolutionary technical ideas – such as the rigid backbone tube, independent suspension, air-cooled engines and aerodynamic bodywork."
And did you know that Škoda is already 125 years old? "Škoda's automotive division was created in 1919 and then made the news five years later by purchasing a licence to produce the lightning-fast H6B from Hispano-Suiza. At the end of the war, Škoda focused its efforts on four models, the names of which have echoed through the decades: the Rapid, the Favorit, the Popular and the Superb. The Škoda Superb featured a straight-six engine." The Czech are back at Rétromobile!
Besides this, it is this year also a special edition for FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles): "Alfa Romeo is celebrating its 110th birthday! It all began back in 1910 with the first model – the Alfa 24 HP – designed by engineer Giuseppe Merosi. The logo is a reminder of the company’s links with Milan: the biscione grass snake – the emblem of the House of Visconti – on one side, and on the other, a red cross against a white background, symbolising Milan."
Also, the auction houses try to surpass this year with the most beautiful and exclusive lots. Among them Bonhams Motor cars. Have you already seen the PreWarCars that will be auctioned in The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées on Thursday the 6th of February? If you haven`t, click here to have a look. And what do you think of the line-up of classic cars that will be auctioned by Artcurial Motorcars on Friday the 7th February? Also, very impressive! Click here to decide for yourself.
We are of course also present this year with the PWC stand. You can come and meet the team in Hall 1 - D 084. We can give you advice on how to advertise (and sell!) your classic car, motorbike and/or parts and answer all questions you have regarding our websites. Your Passion Is Our Profession!
On display, we have a 1938 Lancia Astura Coupé by Carrosserie Pourtout with a 2.973 cc V8 engine. Earlier this week we already told you about “the mystery of Salon Rétromobile 2020.” The current owner of the car is searching for more information on the early history of this impressive Lancia. They have invited some relatives of a previous owner hoping to solve the mystery in Paris. Any information and/or old photographs of the Lancia Astura would be highly appreciated.
Our friend Michael Edwards - the expert in the field tricycles and quadricycles – is also present. He will be presenting The Tricycle Book, 1895 -1902, Part Two. Tomorrow we will be telling you more about his new book.
Essit Automotive will be showing their (modern) craftmanship at our stand. They make it possible to place your own 50 cm high chrome hood ornament in your own garden. Curious? Come and have a look at the PWC stand!
We hope to see you all in Paris!
