RM's press release concerning their 10 May Monaco sale reported in roaring style about the line up of 'Italian Million Sellers', ranging from a 1956 Maserati 450S prototype to a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Pinin Farina Cabriolet Series I and many other Italian masterpieces in between. But the one car that attracted our attention is the 1953 Aston Martin DB2 Vantage, which has not been on the road since 1958 and reportedly has covered some 33,000 kilometers! Supplied new to the States in 1953, the Pensylvanian owner kept it for about five years and then sold it to someone in California. After being stored for more than six decades, the Aston is still in a most original condition, its current Moonbeam Grey finish is probably applied at the factory. The red leather interior shows signs of age and use of course, but in our opinion the tears and scratches only add to the superb, honest patina. A little attention is needed of course, including the Vantage engine, but please... keep in mind that (according ot Wikipedia) of the 411 DB2s produced only 49 had the Vantage specs. Now how often do you think a next pristine unmolested exemplare will resurface? What a great contender for the preservation class at any concours! To each his own, but if we had the choice at RM's Monaco table, this time we would prefer the kippers to any pizza or pasta.
