The Netherlands in the fifties – Part 4

The last stop on our brief tour through Holland is Middelburg, an historic town in the province Zeeland. Here we visit the market square with the town hall, one of the most beautiful medieval buildings in the Netherlands. Construction of the town hall was started in 1452 and finished almost seventy years later, in 1520. It was virtually destroyed during WW II. In the drawing the tower is still under reconstruction, the restoration lasted until late in the 20th century. Today the market square is a pedestrian area.
