Tough to crack Car Puzzle # 26

This is going to be hard. This is a US made car. The make is very well known worldwide. However... it is not directly related to car building. But indirectly, yes. It is a prototype that was created for marketing purposes short after WWII. And though it looks like a ..... , or a .... , or maybe a.... it is not.  Probably the car got lost somewhere in history, but it was still around just a few years ago. Even photos may be scarce. This rare photo was saved from a dustbin of its manufacturer... A nice odball, nearly lost in history. Or do you know what it is? And where it is?
