Toyota versus Tsubame

Cars chasing trains used to be a popular pastime. Not only in England and France but also in Japan where this photo was taken in 1948. It's a Toyota model SA racing the Tsubame express train. We're not sure why this race was held, but it was probably a marketing ploy by Toyota to tell the virtues of their first post-war model. Unsuccessfully, as the SA was only produced in limited numbers. Toyota certainly made up as later models sold in huge numbers and the company will be celebrating its 75th birthday next week. Check here a Toyota timeline . The oldest known Toyota AA car was found with the help of PreWarCar and now resides in the Louwman Museum in Holland.
