Trademark girl, mystery Ferrari
Do girls like racing cars? We don’t know, but we tend to believe that the majority of them prefer pastel coloured Fiat 500s over racing red Ferrari 500s, which we believe this car to be. The photograph was made for a 1960s clothing company named Queen Casuals, which was based in New York and used this lady as their trade mark. That makes her today's Friday Lady, wearing a superb outfit by them.
That’s all we know. It would be nice, though, to learn a little more. Particularly about the car seen here. Is it a 500 Testa Rossa? The book ‘Tutto Ferrari’ did not seem to show an exact specimen like this, with that little air opening in the front, so we may be wrong. Oh – if you know the cheeky Queen Casuals lady, feel free to come in, too. Wouldn’t this be a superb photo to recreate after more then half a century?

This unique 248SP is now in Brisbane, where I photographed it last year, wearing the registration number PROVA MO54 and looking fantastic!

Definitely not a 500 Testa Rossa, but rather a 1961/62 196 SP or 246 SP.

We owned the car in the late 1990s having bought it from Pierre Bardinon. What an incredible machine with massive low-end torque. It was ultra-low to the ground and insanely original and un-modified other than having the nose reworked to having a letter box opening for the radiator.
Chinetti had the car several times and got it back again in 1966. It was essentially useless at that point but was in good shape and he was the one that rented it out to Queen Casuals for the advertising shoot. Chinetti sold it to Bardinon not long after where it remained until our purchase.
I will try and upload a photo I took of it when it came back to us in 2017. Bardinon had the nose reconfigured back to the original appearance it had when new.
