Unidentified gearbox Pre- or Post-War? (update: 1952/58 Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire 346)

Mick Hudson is looking for information relating to this gearbox. He writes: "It was included in a garage clearance that I did a couple of years ago. I suspect it is prewar but could be wrong! There is a small aluminium plate riveted on but no markings remain. The only numbers are casting numbers which I read differently every time! It does seem to be 'ASP' so perhaps Armstrong Siddeley? The diameter of the bell housing is approx 14.5 inches and the overall length is 18 inches. I'm sure someone will know."

Editor: We may be wrong, but judging the shape of the tail end fixings we suppose this to be a postwar unit.
