Not sure if you picked up the Breaking News last week regarding the Maranello Rosso collection sold to Holland. Despite the fact the news was never confirmed by the Louwman Collection at least our prediction came true that part of the collection will be sold off through Bonhams. And it's not the left overs which are being sold!
Bonhams refers to "the longest single owner Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta (here pictured during the 1964 Coppa Consuma) " being sold at their Quail Lodge 15 August auction. Well the guy who likes to buy probably will have to sell off his Beverley Hills villa in order to finance this auction headline of the year. The recent sold GTOs produce an interesting curve if you like. In 2012 a GTO sold at US$ 32 million 'only'. In 2013 another one sold at US$ 52 million. So connecting the dots we wonder what 2014 will bring. Let's write down a highly speculative US$ 82? Or why not show some more flair and say that it will be the first Ferrari (and car) to crush the US$ 100 million ceiling? We are just wondering why Louwman - who can spend a dime - is letting this crown jewel go? Are they expecting the bubble to splash?
