The MG TD is one of Britain's most iconic classic sportscars, renowned for its charming styling, engaging driving experience, and significant role in popularising British roadsters around the world. Produced between 1950 and 1953 by the MG Car Company, the TD combined traditional pre-war design with important mechanical improvements that made it more practical and enjoyable to drive. It featured flowing front wings, a distinctive upright chrome grille, running boards, wire wheels, and a folding canvas roof, giving it a timeless appearance that continues to captivate enthusiasts today. Powering the MG TD is a 1250cc inline four-cylinder engine producing approximately 54bhp. While modest by modern standards, the lightweight construction of the car allows for lively performance and responsive handling. A four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive provide an authentic, engaging driving experience, making every journey enjoyable whether on winding country roads or at classic car events. One of the TD's most notable advances over its predecessor was the introduction of independent front suspension using coil springs and rack-and-pinion steering. These improvements significantly enhanced ride comfort, steering precision, and overall road manners, helping the car appeal to a wider audience. The interior remains simple yet elegant, featuring leather seats, a wood-trimmed dashboard, and traditional analogue instruments that perfectly complement its vintage character.
Originally registered on 21st May 1953, this MG TD showed as a one owner car until June 2025. The car had been stored and not used for a number of years. It has now been recommissioned by a very competent DIY mechanic, with great success. The car starts on the button and runs well, the gearbox operates as it should, as do the brakes. These are simple basic cars, with parts in plentiful supply via various Owners Clubs. Finished in British Racing Green with beige interior, this MG is supplied with a V5 registration document. The MG TD achieved remarkable success in export markets, particularly in the United States, where it inspired a generation of sportscar enthusiasts. Consigned by Stewart Banks.
