Just over 100 factory-built Morgan Plus 4 Super Sports (often quoted as 104 cars) were produced between 1962 and 1968 following Christopher Lawrence's Le Mans success in 1962

In the name of our client we are delighted to offer for sale this exceptional and highly significant matching-numbers LHD Morgan Plus 4 Super Sports Factory Lawrence Tune, Chassis No. 5004.

One of only a very limited number produced, this genuine factory Lawrence Tune car is presented in its original factory colour scheme of Broken White exterior with a Red leather interior and represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable competition-derived Morgans ever built.

Originally supplied new to a lady owner in New York, USA, the car remained in private ownership throughout its life in North America. During the 1980’s it was entrusted to the renowned Reg Beer Morgan in Toronto for a comprehensive restoration. Despite its exceptional competition pedigree, the car has never been raced or used in motorsport, making it an unusually original and well-preserved example.

Our client acquired the car approximately ten years ago from a long-standing friend and have continued to improve it regardless of cost.

Engine & Transmission:  Its 2 liter all steel TR engine has been comprehensively re-engineered by TR Enterprises / TR Racetorations to full competition road-race specification, producing approximately 175 bhp! Combined with a kerb weight of little more than 900 kg, the performance is nothing short of astonishing.

The rebuild incorporated extensive internal upgrades, roller rocker conversion, a Morgan performance exhaust manifold, professional running-in, rolling-road tuning and dyno testing.

The engine now produces approximately 175 bhp with exceptional torque throughout the rev range. Rolling-road figures show 147 lb-ft at 3,800 rpm, rising to and maintaining approximately 165 lb-ft between 4,250 and 5,000 rpm, providing effortless performance and outstanding flexibility.

The engine has covered only approximately 80 miles since completion.

The original MOSS gearbox has also been comprehensively upgraded by the renowned JB Sports Engineering with an all-synchromesh competition gearset. The result is a remarkable transformation in drivability while retaining the character of the original car.

Chassis & Specification:  The car has also benefited from complete wing-off repaint in the original factory colour.

Re-trimmed in correct Red leather, upgraded suspension, dual-circuit braking system, Suplex front suspension, side screens, hood, tonneau cover.

Mechanically and cosmetically the car is presented to an exceptional standard.

History:  The history file includes the Morgan Heritage Certificate together with extensive restoration records, engine build invoices, rolling-road dyno report and supporting documentation. The UK registration process is currently being completed and the V5C registration document will accompany the vehicle.

Competition Heritage:   The Lawrence Tune Plus 4 Super Sports occupies a special place in Morgan history. Developed through the work of Chris Lawrence, these cars became among the fastest and most capable Morgans of their era. Their success culminated in Chris Lawrence and Richard Shepherd-Barron winning the GT Class (1601–2000cc) at the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hours in a Morgan Plus 4 Super Sports.

Today, these rare factory Lawrence Tune cars are highly sought after by collectors and remain eligible for many of Europe's premier historic touring and competition events, including the Tour Auto (subject to event regulations).
