2005 Mercedes-Benz E 55 AMG | Global Icons: The Patina Collective
Chassis No. WDBUF76J75A755025
Since the legendary 500 E, Mercedes-Benz has maintained a tradition of offering a high-performance executive sedan built around a simple yet compelling formula: a powerful engine, an automatic transmission, exceptional road manners, and all the luxury, refinement, and build quality for which the marque is renowned.
The W211-generation E 55 AMG faithfully follows this philosophy. Developed by AMG-by then fully integrated into Mercedes-Benz-the model elevated the already capable E-Class into one of the most formidable sports sedans of its era.
At its heart lies AMG's hand-built, supercharged 5.5-liter V8, producing 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. The engine was recognized with the prestigious International Engine of the Year Award in 2003 for Best Performance Engine. Power is delivered through AMG's SPEEDSHIFT five-speed automatic transmission featuring steering-wheel-mounted shift controls inspired by Formula One. Advanced technical features including active downshifting, an optimum gear selection function, torque-converter lock-up from first gear, and significantly quicker shift responses contribute to a remarkably direct and engaging driving experience.
The designers made the cars easily distinguished with 18-inch AMG alloy wheels (no longer fitted), revised front and rear bumpers, quad oval exhaust outlets, and a slightly lower ride height distinguish the E 55 AMG from its standard E-Class counterpart. Subtle yet purposeful, these enhancements provide a discreet indication of the car's extraordinary performance capabilities.
Delivered new through Mercedes-Benz of Jacksonville in February 2005, this E 55 AMG was specified with a custom special-order Feueropal finish, a rare and striking deep orange-red hue evocative of the power and intensity of fire, complemented by a two-tone Charcoal and Dark Blue leather interior. Today the car is equipped with black 18-inch five-spoke wheels from an S-Class.
In addition to this highly unusual and attractive color combination, the car was equipped with Keyless Go, a power-operated glass sunroof, heated and electrically adjustable sports/dynamic seats with memory package for the driver's seat, steering column, and mirrors, as well as the Enhanced A/C Cooling Power Package, all contributing to the comfort and luxury expected of a flagship Mercedes-Benz sedan. Standard and optional equipment are extensive and further include Servotronic speed-sensitive power steering, Airmatic dual-control semi-active air suspension, and the Parktronic parking assistance system. A detailed list of equipment and factory options is available on file.
The car is accompanied by a CARFAX Vehicle History Report noting two minor damage incidents, to the front and rear, reported in 2013 and 2019. Having remained in Florida since new, it was regularly serviced by its original selling dealer and Mercedes-Benz of Orange Park in Jacksonville through 2013, followed primarily by Tire Kingdom of Sanford through 2019, and subsequently by Mercedes-Benz of Naples, Florida, with invoice on file, in 2020 at 172,907 miles recorded on the odometer.
Today, the car is offered with 177,693 miles showing on the odometer and is accompanied by a CARFAX Vehicle History Report, prior service records, as well as its keyless-go key fob.
